Students in year 1 and year 2 follow a common programme where they undertake subjects in ALL the departments. Teachers in most government primary schools in Eswatini teach all (or several of) the subjects in the school hence our trainees are given an opportunity to further their knowledge in all the areas before selecting majors in year 3.
Third year PTD students choose one subject combination from each of the following sub-groups: English / SiSwati, English / French, Mathematics / Science, Mathematics / ICT, Science / ICT, Social Studies (Geography / History / Religious Education / Development Studies), Applied Sciences (Agriculture / Consumer Science)
These are subjects student take in addition to their major subjects. Music, Art And Crafts, Physical Education, Numerical Skills (for third year non-science majors), Academic Communication Skills(ACS), and Computer Studies for first and second year students.
The academic year runs from August to May of the following year and comprises of two semesters. It is divided into two teaching semesters each consisting of not less than 13 weeks (including a mid-term break). Before the examination begins, there is a period of study time, the duration of which is determined by the college.
Teaching practice is a period that a student teacher spends teaching at a school as part of his or her training. There are several primary schools around the country who have partnered with the College to enable our student teachers to put into practice the knowledge, skills and practices they have acquired in the college. This is done in year 2 for 6 weeks and for another 6 weeks in the third year.
